Thursday, October 18th, 2007

OK, I was wrong, I didn’t change it drastically, I shortened it and it sounds similar.

Park Slope Soundtrack #2

I lowered the cats volume a bit and panned it slightly.
In the previous soundtrack, the high volume of the cat overshadowed other soft sounds, like the espresso machine.

I know this soundtrack is a bit long for this project; we were asked to submit a 4-8 second long soundtrack. I feel like it works @ 19 seconds, there is a build up of percussion sounds that is integral for the climax, and ending of this piece.

I will try to shorten the current audio, but I am afraid that it will change it drastically since deleting that percussion climactic piece will be necessary.

If I were to create a 4-8 second long track, I am afraid that I might have to start from scratch.

Park Slope Soundtrack

This is the soundtrack project.
I chose a neighborhood in NY are, Park Slope was it.
I then recorded ‘found’ sounds in the neighborhood with my digital camera. The sounds were:
• Human sound one word; espresso
• Human sound, non verbal
• animal sound; cat.
• electronic sound: not used but recorded
• machine sound; espresso machine

I also, in the background placed 2 found loops on the Internet. One is instrumental and one is percussion .

This is my sound collage of park Slope!!

It’s kind of interesting that I treatd this software visually as well.
Especially with the panning and controlling the volume in key parts….ie.
raising it here and lower it there.
It’s like I started to make consisitent shapes in the envelope area with
the dotting of the lines and placement of the circles. Not sure how to
descibe it other then that. I’ll provide a snapshot to illutrate what I
mean….

I did this to maintain a rythmic quality to the audio..
